Experience a trusting and reparative relationship to support your healing and growth.

Welcome
Hello and welcome to my website. If you are feeling lost, anxious about your future, or looking to learn new coping skills I would love to help. I offer counselling online, telephone and in person in Southampton centre. Each method has their own benefits and the options allow you to consider what type of support you are looking for and what your availability is.
Existence is hard, period. I will listen without judgement, or a fixed agenda, to make sense of how your experience in life has been uniquely challenging for you. Focused, active listening is a healing experience in our busy modern day life. We can feel isolated and disconnected from ourselves and each other. I believe our work will help you move towards a feeling of connection and authenticity within yourself.

Therapy Options
Online
Online video call using Google Meet as it’s easy to use and encrypted to ensure a safe connection. I will send a link prior to the session. If you prefer to stay in the comfort and security of your own home, providing you have a private space, counselling online is accessible for those who might find travelling difficult for a number of reasons. It’s a way of connecting so we can use body language and facial expression as a way of developing self awareness. Online allows for sharing of screens so we have the option to look at resources, or create something together. Some people might like to play a simple game to ease some pressure while they express personal thoughts and emotions.
Telephone
I will call you each session, calling your mobile, landline or using WhatsApp. If speaking to someone from the comfort and security of your own home appeals to you, counselling over the phone is a good option. Appealing for those who might struggle with managing their time, for example if you feel like you’re always running late to appointments. As long as you have a private space to talk openly, using the phone offers a simple and personable method to accessing counselling. Focusing on the voice, pauses, sighs, and tone of voice allows me to hone in on your verbal communication. If you are put off by technology, or you would prefer to not be seen whilst expressing emotions, talking over the phone may be suited to you.
In- person
I rent a space in Oxford street, Southampton to work with clients. The room is used by other counselling services so I work within the limitations of availability.
When you and I share the same space it helps to create a connection of unity, we are in the experience together. In person creates reassurance that I am focused on you, and helps you stay focused on yourself. We can explore what is happening in the present moment as it develops. We have the option to work creatively using tools such as emotions cards or a sand tray, however this is only an option and not necessarily to everyone’s taste. There are many public transport links operating nearby, and there is a car park 2 minutes walk from the building. Unfortunately the building is not wheelchair accessible. The room is located on the 1st floor and there is no lift.

Testimonial
I began counselling with Kelly during one of the lowest points in my life. I struggle with depression, anxiety and other challenges, and at the time, I had no idea where to turn. From the very start, her calm, understanding approach made me feel comfortable opening up about my issues. Over the course of our sessions, I gained the tools I needed to better cope with my emotions and problems, and to approach them from a more balanced perspective. I’m now in a much better place, thanks to Kelly’s support, and I’m deeply grateful for all she’s done. I highly recommend Kelly to anyone seeking guidance and support.

Frequently asked Questions
Have questions? We have the answers!
What is Gestalt?
Gestalt is part of Humanistic theory of Therapy, it uses Person centred values as a foundation but focuses more on developing self awareness. This is through the use of open ended questions from me, to explore thoughts, emotions and bodily sensations as they occur. All communication has equal value, meaning verbal dialogue has just as much meaning as a sigh or break in eye contact, it all aids our understanding of ourselves. We will focus on the here and now. We can explore your past to understand how it impacts you in the present. We have the option to work creatively. I may make suggestions which allow for a fresh perspective but it is not enforced in any way..
When is the right time for counselling?
When you are able to schedule some time for yourself for regular sessions. Time is needed for the session itself and afterwards to reflect on what was discussed. Counselling can be for anyone at any time, not just for people in deep depression or grief for example.
How do I make the most of my time in therapy?
There is no right or wrong way, neither a one size fits all approach. Some like to prepare beforehand, making notes for example, for what they want to say. Some people talk about something in the previous week that caused strong emotions. Some people explain how they are feeling “stuck” in some way. It is equally useful to start with “I’m not sure”, then I can ask some open-ended questions to aid exploration of thoughts and feelings in the present moment.
Why are sessions 50 minutes?
A This is a standard “counselling hour” – it serves as a pragmatic way to divide time between clients, sessions can start on the hour with a small break in between for notes etc. It also allows for simple accounting and tracking of time for sessions. I aim to be flexible with session times within reason, this can be discussed during session if you feel you would benefit from shorter/ longer sessions, the fee would be adjusted accordingly.
